Load cell

What is the life-span of a load cell?

Load cells are generally made of metals such as aluminum, iron and stainless steel.

Listed among the load cell specifications, you can find the “fatigue life”. This indicates how many times a load can be applied at the rated capacity (the upper limit of force that can be applied within the performance range of the load cell).

For example, if the fatigue life is 1,000,000 times, it means that a load can be applied approximately 1,000,000 times at the rated capacity.

If the number of loads exceeds 1,000,000, the load cell may no longer perform as specified.

Sudden shock or applying force that exceeds the rated capacity for a long time will damage the load cell. However, with proper use, maintenance, and protection, load cells can be used for many years, if not decades.
